TONIGHT❗️ Golden Age Club starting at 5pm.

Come out to share your feedback and guidance on developing the restoration plan for North Creek.📆 KEPO is hosting a community workshop on Thursday, January 18 at 5:00 pm at the GOLDEN AGE CLUB to review potential restoration works for North Creek, including those that would take place in summer 2024. Community feedback and guidance on developing this plan will be essential for effective restoration. The North Creek Community Visioning Project (NCCVP) is about the history, health, and restoration of North Creek, aka Whákeras Creek or Town Creek. KEPO has been gathering a community history of the creek through a series of interviews with elders, social media callouts, an information session, online survey and creek walks. 🐟 The next step is to develop a plan for the future of the creek in collaboration with our engineering consultant (Water's Edge), and the community. 👉*Meal provided for first 25 participants* We cannot restore the creek to exactly what it was before, but we can make meaningful improvements that will benefit community members and our kin in the natural world. This project is one small step towards a future where our creeks are revitalized and flourishing. Join us in rethinking “Whákeras” creek! #kahnawakeenvironment #kepoevent #northcreek #aquaticrestoration ... See MoreSee Less

Last Saturday, KEPO completed the first phase of the Kahnawà:ke Food Forest with the help of local volunteers. In total, 6 apple trees, 3 plum trees, 2 shagbark hickory and 3 walnuts were planted, along with many other plants and shrubs such as strawberries, raspberries, chokecherries, highbush cranberries, and medicines. We were also able to add 3 pawpaw trees that were generously donated by community members. The next steps will be to prepare the site for winter, by putting up deer fences to ensure trees are not damaged over the winter months. 🌳
