Kahnawà:ke Environmental Visioning Project
Remembering our Past, Protecting our Future
Community Consultation and Outreach
The first draft of the Kahnawà:ke Environmental Vision is complete and we are entering the next phase of this project. This draft vision draws upon survey results, engagements and broad community events that KEPO has been doing over the past year.
The vision will help guide future projects and serve as a shared goal for all community lead environmental initiatives.
In the upcoming months, KEPO will be working with PlanIt Consulting to ensure that this first vision statement reflects the views of Kahnawa’kehró:non. PlanIt and KEPO will be at upcoming community events, kiosks around town and engagements with different parts of the community. Keep an eye out on our social media to see when our next kiosk or event will be.
If you would like us to come and talk with you, your family or organization please reach out to us at KEPO at 450 635 0600 or stop by our office in the blue building over the road from the Sports Complex.
We want to know what steps you think we should take as a community to bring this vision to life.
Does this reflect your vision for the environment in Kahnawà:ke? Is there anything missing or should be changed? We want to hear from you.
First Draft of the Kahnawà:ke Environmental Vision
We are Kahnawa’kehró:non and we live and flourish on the pristine and beautiful lands and waters of our ancestors in Kahnawà:ke. We remember and honour those who came before us to maintain and protect the futures of those still to come.
We are strong in our culture with respect for each other and our environment including the plants and animals we share our home with as we have done for generations.
Our air is fresh, our waters are clean and flowing, and our wetlands are protected as they protect us from pollution and the changing climate. Our fish are healthy and abundant, and our people enjoy and spend time in and around our waters.
Our lands are restored and protected for current and future generations. We continue to maintain our traditional practices of hunting, fishing and medicine gathering. We know and share our stories, language and our knowledges with each other. We are a self-sufficient people who grow our own foods which we share amongst our people.
We are a sovereign nation who live in a balanced way where our people thrive by supporting ourselves economically whilst still maintaining our responsibilities as stewards of our land and waters.
Leave us your feedback!

Protecting our territory honours our ancestors and strengthens our identity. When we protect our land, we protect our culture, we protect our language, we protect our future.
